Boomer - Therapy Dog
Dr. Swing incorporates her therapy dog, Boomer, as a co-therapist for clients who are comfortable with his presence. Boomer joined the practice in December 2017 after completing his training at Valor K9 Academy, guided by Dr. Swing's previous therapy dog, Blake. Boomer attends all therapy sessions with Dr. Swing, and his impact has been remarkable. Clients have shown significant improvements in mood and affect regulation, and they have practiced establishing appropriate boundaries and authority with Boomer, which they have adopted in their daily lives. Many clients report feeling more comfortable, safe, and secure with Boomer present, as he provides touch, affection, and reassurance in ways that a therapist cannot. He is especially effective in promoting safety and relaxation for clients experiencing anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, sadness, and depression. Boomer will sit near you to be petted when you're anxious, and cuddle when you're sad. His presence and happy demeanor will bring a smile to anyone's face.
